Renowned Ghanaian businessman and media mogul, Dr. Osei Kwame Despite, has moved to distance himself from the growing legal and family disagreements involving the widows of late highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Fosu, widely known as Daddy Lumba.
The billionaire entrepreneur has flatly rejected suggestions that he is backing one faction of the late musician’s family, particularly claims that he is supporting one of Lumba’s wives, Odo Broni, amid the emerging tensions following the artiste’s death.
In a viral audio circulating on social media, Dr Despite clarified that narratives portraying him as favouring one side are misleading. He stated that his relationship with Akosua Serwaa, another widow of the late musician, is much closer than public commentary suggests, and insisted that he has not aligned himself with any camp.
Explaining his involvement, Dr Despite revealed that upon learning of Daddy Lumba’s passing, he voluntarily donated GH¢100,000 to the family, describing the contribution as a personal gesture of goodwill to a longtime friend rather than an intervention in family matters.
He further disclosed that after Akosua Serwaa returned to Ghana, she reached out to him, leading to arrangements for her, her children and other family members to visit him ahead of the one-week observance. During that interaction, he said he offered additional financial support to cater for her and the children’s needs.
Dr Despite added that although he could not attend the one-week memorial in person, he continued to assist the family financially and in other ways, including providing Akosua Serwaa with a vehicle to support her mobility and daily responsibilities.
Addressing speculation about his presence at Daddy Lumba’s funeral, the businessman stressed that his attendance was purely to pay his last respects to a close friend and should not be interpreted as an endorsement of any side in the ongoing family disagreements.
He concluded by making it clear that he has no interest in the dispute between the two women and expressed hope that the family would find unity and resolve their differences amicably.
