Former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on Saturday December 13, 2025 paid an emotional visit to the home of the late iconic politocian Simon Diedong Dombo, popularly known as S. D. Dombo.
The late Dombo, who represented Jirapa-Lambussie as Member of Parliament that in the first Parliament of the first and second Republic of Ghana on the ticket of the Northern People's Party, was also a founding member of the NPP's founding tradition, the United Party (UP), alongside other stalwarts such as Dr. Abrefa Busia and J.B. Dankwa.
As part of his campaign tour of the Upper West Region, Dr. Bawumia called on the family of Dombo, who warmly welcomed him to the family house in Duori.
Dr. Bawumia, accompanied by NPP stalwarts in the Upper West Region, including former Interior Minister Ambrose Derry and former Regional Minister Hafiz Bin Salih, also visited the grave of the politician, educationist and traditional ruler.
Both the Chief of Douri and the family of Dombo commended Dr. Bawumia for always passing by to show his respect to the family and also to the memory of their grandfather.
They wished Dr. Bawumia well in the upcoming primaries, pledging their support and prayers for his victory, which they said is certain.
The Chief of Douri, Naa Dombo III described Dr. Bawumia as the "2nd Dombo," predicting that he will win the NPP's January primaries as well as be elected President of Ghana in 2028.
In October 2022, the family of Simon Diedong Dombo, one of the founding fathers of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Ghana, enskinned Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia with the chieftaincy title "Naa Lewa". The name translates to "the chief has come back".
The enskinment occurred when Dr. Bawumia, then the Vice President of Ghana, paid a courtesy call on the Dombo family during an official working visit to the Upper West Region. The Chief of Duori, Naa Dombo III, explained that Dr. Bawumia was given the title because he exhibited traits of their late father and had re-established ties between the Dombo and Bawumia families.
