The acting Eastern Regional Manager for the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC), Abdulai Bawa Ghamsah, has admonished road users, especially motorists and revellers at the 2019 Odwira festival to stay safe on the roads.
He entreated road users to abide by regulations to prevent needless deaths and injuries due to accidents.
For him, road users need to do everything possible from being counted as part of road accident deaths of the Commission's reports.
Mr Ghamsah was speaking in an interview when the NRSC embarked on a road safety campaigns on the Akuapem Ridge as part of the 2019 Odwira Festival.
"Festive occasions are joyous occasions but people go overboard in terms of celebrating. So, the advice we want to give is that they need the life that they have to be there to celebrate more and more festivals to come but if you decide, just for one festival, to go and kill yourself, it means you will not be there next time to celebrate the next festivals,” he stressed.
He continued: "This year's festival may not be as interesting as the next year so think of what you will do to save your life so you will be alive to celebrate more festivals, else you will become our statistics," Mr Ghamsah added.
The campaign was a collaborative effort between the NRSC and the Akropong Divisional Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service.
As part of durbars held, flyers containing road safety awareness was distributed to motorists and revellers at Akropong and Larteh Akuapem.
