The Member of Parliament (MP) for Suhum constituency, in the Eastern region, Frederick Opare Ansah, has asked Ghanaians not to split heads over the proposed new Parliamentary chamber set to be built by the government.

Following the Government's decision to build a new 450 seated chamber, the Ghanaian populace has expressed disappointment in the government with a chunk of them describing it as needless and a misplaced priority.

Opare Ansah when addressing the residents of Kukua after donating some bags of cement and roofing sheets to them over the weekend said, they as parliamentarians listen to what their constituents say and that, promising to work in their favour.

"If the government will build a new chamber block or not, it is a Ghanaian fund. People have raised a red flag against the new chamber due to the fact that some people find it difficult to even get water to drink. When we built the international conference center in 1971 there was water for the people to drink" he said.

According to the Chairman of Parliamentary Selected Committee on Communication, if Ghanaians should sit down and apportion blames on the government for initiating developmental projects, the country will be a standstill.

He added that the concerns made by the Majority Leader of Parliament in the exposure of members and the speaker in the chamber to direct confrontation, people sitting in galleries does not make the configuration of the chamber save.

"It is a matter that needs to be debated and its a decision that has to be taken, whether it is now or it is in future, we will still have to be confronted with the fact that, our Parliament needs to be looked at properly" he indicated.

The Forth time Member of Parliament expressed that, the House of Commons has a different chamber for normal parliamentary work but believes when they are doing their regular debate and other activities, a different chamber is used.

Again, he indicated that the particular house of commons chamber accommodates only 300 MP's whereas the total number of MP's is 650.

This means when all the 650 MP's has to go to Parliament, 350 of them have to sit outside and that, disenfranchising them as he believes that is not a good module to implement.

He has, therefore, urged Ghanaians to open up and fully discuss the issue at stake and not to split heads over it.

"I represent the good people of Suhum and if I sample the views of my constituents and they are against a new chamber block, so be it, if they are for it, am for it. So it is not a decision that Parliament will take lightly" he ended.
