Mr. Samuel Asare Akuamoah, the Deputy Chair of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), has urged women not to undervalue themselves.
He said this during a town hall meeting for women within the Adansi North District, which was funded by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
The successful event, which included women from various communities, such as Dompoase, Fomena, and some other communities, was held on December 3rd, 2024, at the Methodist Church in Dompoase.
With a large number of career women in attendance, including some physically challenged persons, facilitators took turns encouraging women to pursue leadership roles, such as those in governance.
Mr. Jon. Kusi Odame, the presiding member for the district, expressed displeasure at the absence of a female assembly member in the Adansi North District.
He disclosed that the situation was concerning since, in his opinion, women are equally capable of being effective leaders who, when used, can benefit the nation more broadly.
Some participants talked about their predicament, stating that women are typically denigrated and humiliated when they avail themselves for positions.
A participant stated, "Society has made it look like women are inferior, so we are mostly not even given the chance, and also when we even go for it, we are discriminated against."
The NCCE Deputy Chair, Mr. Akuamoah, urged the women to disregard such treatment, even from their own peers, and pursue any career path they feel qualified for.
"Men receive the same treatment, but perseverance is necessary. I will urge all women to uphold what they have in them and go all out to make a difference. For example, every president of the country receives insults, which is really awful and should change, but it does not stop men from running for office," Mr. Akuamoah stated.
Meanwhile, Linda Agyemang Boateng, the NCCE Director for the Adansi North District, commended women for the brave leadership roles they play in their homes as mothers and spouses and urged them to extend such enthusiasm in governance.
