Graduate teachers who are applying to be recruited to teach in Senior High Schools ahead of the rolling out of government's controversial double track system under the free SHS programme are to pay 5 cedis, a statement by the Ghana Education Service (GES) has directed.
According to the statement which was issued on August 27,2018, applicants would have to apply online via www.gespromotions.gov.gh.
“Only applicants who have completed their National Service wll be shortlisted to write a test to determine their suitability for the advertised positions,” the statement signed by the head of PR of GES, Cassandra Twum Ampofo said.
Interested graduates have up to September 1 to put in their application.
A total of 819 will be recruited for core mathematics, 276 for elective mathematics, 793 for English language, 606 for integrated science and 366 for social studies, the Daily Graphic reported.
The GES said it reserves the right to post those to be recruited to places where their services will be required.
The introduction of the semester system comes as government's policy of free SHS encounters fresh and serious challenges.
The move to make education free at the second cycle stage in order to deepen access has led to severe congestion in classrooms and pressure on already inadequate infrastructure.
To cure this problem, the government has, not without controversy, introduced the double track system. The system divides the entire student body and staff into two different tracks. So while one track is in school, the other is on vacation.
