Vice President and NPP Flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has unveiled a bold initiative aimed at revitalizing the Ghana Premier League and providing robust support to local football clubs.
During the launch of the NPP's 2024 Manifesto, Dr. Bawumia outlined a series of comprehensive and sustainable sports development policies designed to enhance the league's commercial viability and support the broader football ecosystem.
In his announcement, Dr. Bawumia emphasized that his government will prioritize the revival of the Premier League and its associated clubs.
His plans include a range of direct interventions to improve financial stability and operational efficiency.
A key component of this strategy involves leveraging the National Lotteries Authority and the Gaming Commission to establish and fund a Sports Employment Module.
This initiative aims to assist Premier League clubs with essential operational expenses, including player salaries.
Additionally, Dr. Bawumia pledged that each Premier League club will receive a bus to address transportation challenges, thus easing logistical burdens and improving the overall efficiency of team travel.
To foster increased corporate investment in sports, Dr. Bawumia also announced plans to introduce tax incentives, including a flat tax, to encourage private sector participation and support for sports initiatives.
These measures reflect a strong commitment by Dr. Bawumia’s future government to enhance the commercial success and operational support of Ghanaian football, paving the way for a more vibrant and sustainable league.
