Former minister for Youth and Sports Dr Mustapha Ahmed has congratulated MP Yussif Jaja following the latter's victory in their Ayawaso North contest.
Dr Mustapha's aim of returning to parliament faced yet another setback as he was defeated by the incumbent in Saturday's NDC primaries.
His 255 votes were not enough to outfox Jaja who polled 557 to get re-elected to lead the NDC for the parliamentary contest in 2020.
The Ayawaso North has been one of the safe territories of the opposition NDC, having won since 2008 when it was created from the original Ayawaso East constituency.
In a statement, Dr Mustapha pledged his allegiance to the party, promising to work to "bring back NDC into power in 2020".
The Maj [rtd]) Dr, who until January 2017 was the MP for the Constituency, further asked all party faithfuls to unite for the December 2020 general election.
"On behalf of my campaign team, I would like to congratulate the incumbent Member of Parliament for Ayawaso North ( Hon.Yussif Jajah) for emerging the
winner at the just ended primaries," Dr Mustapha said in his congratulatory message.
"I am ready to work and support the incumbent to bring back NDC into power in 2020."
