There are some who believe in the age-old 'drinking wine before beer' adage to avoid hangovers. If you are among them, you need to know that researchers have burst the bubble. In a new study it was found out that this trick doesn't impact the intensity of hangovers. The study was published in the Journal of American Clinical Nutrition.

Clearly, it is not about what you drink but how much you drink that decides the fate of your morning after. The lead author of the study, Joran Kochling from the Witten/Herdecke University shared, "We did not find any truth in the idea that drinking beer before wine gives you a milder hangover than the other way around."

The researchers studied 90 people under controlled lab conditions. The group was divided into three groups and were given personalised meals. The first group was made to drink 2.5 pints of beer followed by 4 glasses of wine. The second group had the same portion of drinks but in the reverse order. The third group drank only beer or wine up to 0.11 per cent of alcohol.

The same group was called again after some days and asked to drink in a reverse manner. Interestingly, regardless of the way they drank alcohol, it did not affect their hangover intensity.

As per Alcohol.org, there is no sure shot cure for a hangover, except time. But there are things that people can do to minimise hangovers - like keeping themselves hydrated, getting ample rest and taking some anti-nausea medication. It is also said that one must avoid drinking on an empty stomach.

Kochling also told CNN that the only reliable way of predicting how miserable you'll feel the next day is by how drunk you feel and whether you are sick. We should all pay attention to these red flags when drinking.
