The Chief Executive Officer of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Julius Neequaye Kotey, has announced the introduction of a Temporary Registration Number Sticker to address gaps in vehicle regulation and identification.
Mr Kotey explained that the initiative is designed for private individuals who are neither fleet operators nor licensed car dealers but require the use of unregistered vehicles for a short period. The temporary sticker, he said, will provide a legal option for such users while ensuring that vehicles on the road can be properly identified in line with national traffic regulations.
He noted that the measure forms part of the DVLA’s broader strategy to improve regulatory compliance, enhance road safety, and modernise vehicle identification systems nationwide.
In addition, Mr Kotey disclosed that the Authority has introduced a Particular Identification Number plate for persons who are easily identifiable, such as traditional leaders and others. He clarified that the new identification system is not based on surname registration.
The DVLA is expected to provide further details in the coming days regarding eligibility requirements, application processes, and the duration of validity for the Temporary Registration Number Sticker.
