The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has announced the suspension of all activities by its Compliance Team, effective Wednesday, October 15, 2025.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, the Authority said the decision follows feedback and consultations with the public regarding the ongoing enforcement exercise aimed at promoting regulatory compliance on the roads.
“Effective tomorrow, October 15, 2025, all activities of the Compliance Team in relation to fines on our roads are suspended until further notice,” the DVLA stated. “The compliance enforcement exercise, which was intensified to ensure that vehicles and drivers meet the legal requirements to operate on our roads, is being paused to allow for broader stakeholder engagement before its reintroduction.”
Over the past few weeks, DVLA’s Compliance Teams have been conducting unannounced roadside inspections, imposing spot fines on drivers who failed to meet licensing and roadworthiness regulations.
The Authority clarified, however, that the suspension applies only to the enforcement of certain administrative fees and charges, not to the legal obligations of drivers and vehicle owners.
“While the Authority remains committed to ensuring safety and compliance on our roads, we recognize the need for adequate public education to ensure a full understanding of the responsibilities that come with operating vehicles,” the statement added.
The DVLA emphasized that all legal requirements for driving and vehicle usage remain in force despite the temporary halt of the Compliance Team’s operations.
