Police in the Eastern Region have apprehended Solomon Siaw Tetteh, the alleged ringleader of a notorious carjacking syndicate that has been stealing vehicles and converting them into coal pots in the Krobo area.

Tetteh was arrested on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at a hideout in Nuaso, located in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipality. The arrest comes after a series of reported vehicle thefts in several communities, including Nkurakan, Asesewa, Somanya, and the Ada Magazine area.

Last week, police raided Tetteh’s residence in Nuaso, capturing three of his alleged accomplices. Tetteh, however, managed to evade capture during that operation. Subsequent intelligence operations led investigators to his new hideout, where he was finally arrested.

During transportation to the Koforidua Divisional Police Headquarters, officers had to reroute from the Nkurakan-Asaman road due to a blockade by local youth.

Reports suggest that the angry residents, frustrated by a wave of thefts in the area, intended to attack the suspect. The police instead used the Koforidua-Agavenya route to avoid violence.

Upon arrival at the police station, Tetteh was presented alongside a number of stolen vehicles and tricycles recovered during the investigation. Despite being positively identified by multiple victims, Tetteh has denied all allegations.

The police have revealed that the syndicate operated by stripping stolen vehicles and repurposing the parts into coal pots, a practice that has caused substantial financial losses to victims.

Investigations are ongoing, with efforts underway to arrest other members of the gang. Tetteh is expected to be arraigned after the inquiry is completed.
