The Electoral Commission on Thursday began the voters register exhibition in an effort to promote public education and sensitisation toward all its activities.

The EC chair , Jean Mensah,  at a press briefing in Accra explained the five days exhibition exercise, which  commenced on the 25th to the 31st of October, 2018,will take place in only the 47 Districts in the four proposed regions to be created.

"Pursuant to public Elections(Registration of voters Regulations 2016 CI 91.23 2(a) (b), the commission shall cause the provisional register of voters of each polling station to be displayed for public inspection at the registration centre for the period specified by the commission in the Gazette notice,"she said.

"To help prospective voters to verify their details as captured and make requests for amendments or insertions where necessary, both the 2018 provisional voters register and that of the 2016 would be exhibited at the centres."

According to Mrs.Jean Mensah, among other things that applicants or voters are expected to request for includes "the removal of names of unqualified voters from the register, the removal of names of deceased voters from the register, the correction of any misspelled names".

On the issue of whether there is enough publicity on the exhibition exercise to enable the public to participate fully. she said District Electoral officers who are involved in the exercise have been briefed and have also engaged public interest and community based organisations including schools, churches, mosques and similar organisations in their areas of operations to explain the modalities of the exhibition exercise. " The District have also been provided with commandeered vehicles, which are mounted with public address systems to undertake publicity. Street announcers have therefore been temporarily employed for all the Districts in the referendum enclaves to announce and publicise the arrangements for the exercise." she noted.

She further said that all exhibition officials have been recruited and trained for the impending exhibition exercise.
