The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has reassured customers that its metering and billing systems comply with strict national and international standards, following concerns raised by some prepaid users.
In a statement signed by Dr. Charles Nii Ayiku Ayiku, the company’s General Manager for External Communications, ECG indicated that all electricity meters installed across the country undergo thorough testing and calibration before deployment.
According to the statement, the company’s quality assurance procedures align with recognised national and global standards. ECG noted that it operates a modern metering laboratory equipped to meet international benchmarks, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of its devices.
Dr. Ayiku further explained that every meter is independently examined and certified by the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) prior to installation to confirm compliance with technical specifications.
While expressing confidence in the integrity of its metering systems, ECG acknowledged that some customers may have genuine concerns regarding billing. It disclosed that investigations into all reported cases are underway, in line with a directive from the Minister for Energy and Green Transition.
As part of efforts to promote transparency, ECG has formally requested the GSA to conduct independent and random tests on meters both in laboratory settings and in the field. The outcome of these assessments will be compiled into a report for submission to the Minister.
ECG reaffirmed its commitment to delivering accountable and responsive services and urged customers to remain cooperative as the review process continues.
