It was a festive atmosphere at Selhurst Park on Tuesday evening as Crystal Palace returned to action for the first time since their historic Emirates FA Cup victory over Manchester City — and they didn’t disappoint, securing a 4-2 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers in a lively Premier League encounter.

Fresh off their first-ever major trophy win at Wembley, the Eagles were welcomed by jubilant fans, and although Wolves briefly silenced the crowd when Emmanuel Agbadou headed them in front, Palace quickly turned the game around.

Eddie Nketiah, signed from Arsenal, bagged a first-half brace, the first a clinical strike from Romaine Esse’s cutback, and the second a close-range finish from an Ismaila Sarr cross, putting Palace ahead before halftime.

In the second half, Ben Chilwell made it 3-1 with a free-kick that deflected off Agbadou’s head and wrong-footed the Wolves keeper.

Though Jorgen Strand Larsen, who had assisted Agbadou’s opener, narrowed the gap to 3-2 with a powerful header, Eberechi Eze, the FA Cup final hero, came off the bench to score Palace’s fourth, sealing the victory.

This win propels Crystal Palace beyond the 50-point mark, a feat they haven’t achieved since the 1991-92 season, when they tallied 57 points. The team’s recent surge underlines a remarkable end to their season, capped off by silverware and their best league form in decades.

Wolves, on the other hand, remain 14th in the table, continuing their mid-table finish hopes with only a couple of games left.

Nketiah who has Ghanaian parents and is eligible to play for Ghana scored only his third goal for the Eagles in the Premier League since joining.
