Ghanaian teenager Edmund Baidoo continued his impressive rise in European football by scoring in Red Bull Salzburg's entertaining 4-2 victory over rivals Rapid Wien on Saturday in Round 32 of the Austrian Bundesliga Championship Group.
The 19-year-old forward, starting the match at the Red Bull Arena, struck in the 24th minute, slotting home calmly after being played through by Dorgeles Nene.
His goal was Salzburg’s third in a frantic first half, helping restore their two-goal cushion after Rapid had pulled one back.
Earlier in the match, Oscar Gloukh and Nene had fired Salzburg into an early 2-0 lead within the first 11 minutes. Rapid Wien’s Andrija Radulovic responded with a goal, but Baidoo’s well-taken finish ensured Salzburg went into the break firmly in control.
Nene later added his second and Salzburg’s fourth with a thunderous strike in the 56th minute, before Guido Burgstaller scored a late consolation for Rapid Wien.
The victory was Salzburg’s 37th in 62 matches against Rapid Wien, reinforcing their dominance in this Austrian rivalry.
Baidoo, who was substituted after 69 minutes to a round of applause, has now scored four goals and registered one assist in the current campaign. His performances have not gone unnoticed, with the young Ghanaian increasingly becoming a key figure in Salzburg’s attacking setup.
Up next for Salzburg is a high-profile encounter in the Club World Cup on June 18, where they will face Mexican champions Pachuca — a major stage for Baidoo to further showcase his talent on the global scene.
