Ghanaian attacker Edmund Baidoo came off the bench to score a crucial goal, securing Red Bull Salzburg's 2-1 home victory over SCR Altach in the Austrian Bundesliga on Saturday evening.
Baidoo, who joined Salzburg from Norwegian second-division side Sogndal IF during the summer transfer window, netted his first Bundesliga goal, sealing all three points for the defending champions.
The match saw a goalless first half, but SCR Altach took the lead in the 59th minute through Lukas Fridrikas.
Salzburg responded strongly in the final 30 minutes, dominating possession and pressing for an equalizer.
Ivorian striker Karim Konate leveled the score with a powerful header in the 84th minute, setting the stage for Baidoo’s heroics.
Just two minutes later, the Ghanaian forward coolly slotted home the winner in the 86th minute, securing a thrilling comeback win for Salzburg.
Baidoo’s impact was immediate, having been introduced in the 68th minute as a substitute for Adam Daghim.
The 21-year-old has now scored twice in just three appearances for Salzburg since his arrival in Austria.
Although Baidoo is yet to represent Ghana at any level, his current form in the Austrian Bundesliga could attract attention for a future call-up.
