Veteran Ghanaian gospel musician Edward Akwasi Boateng has disclosed that his estranged wife, Genevieve, is seeking both custody of their four children and half ownership of his Kumasi residence, following the start of formal divorce proceedings.
According to the gospel artiste, Genevieve made the demands shortly after he filed to legally dissolve their marriage at the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA).
The couple, who got married in 1999, have four children together.
In a video update shared on his YouTube channel, Boateng revealed that his estranged wife has returned the bride price paid during their traditional marriage and is now claiming 50 per cent ownership of the Kumasi house, arguing that it was acquired while they were still married and therefore qualifies as marital property.
Boateng further cited court documents referenced in the video, indicating that Genevieve alleges he contracted a loan during their marriage with her support and failed to repay it. On that basis, she insists she is legally entitled to an equal share of the property.
However, the “Ade Mepe” hitmaker has strongly denied these claims. He insists that he alone financed the construction of the house using proceeds from his music career, especially the success of his popular gospel songs.
He also stated that throughout their marriage, he supported Genevieve extensively, including taking her abroad, purchasing a car for her, and helping her acquire a UK passport.
Speaking emotionally about the ongoing dispute, Boateng said the situation has been deeply distressing but expressed strong faith in God’s direction.
“Sometimes, the challenges Christians go through are overwhelming, but I believe God will see me through,” he said.
The gospel musician also thanked Ghanaians at home and abroad who have stood by him over the years, recalling how many witnessed him selling his music on flash drives in the open markets during difficult times.
He appealed to the public to remain calm and allow the legal process to take its course as the case unfolds.
