Eight feared dead in horrific Kasoa tollbooth accident
26th October 2025
A devastating road accident near the Kasoa tollbooth in the Ga South Municipality has claimed at least eight lives, including two children, and left several others critically injured.
The crash occurred on Saturday when a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter bus (registration GW 7455-18), travelling from Madina to Kasoa, collided with a private Jeep (registration GR 7673-W) that was reportedly reversing on the highway after missing a U-turn.
Eyewitnesses recounted that the Sprinter, unable to avoid the Jeep, crashed into its rear and somersaulted several times, throwing passengers onto the road.
Five people — including two children — were pronounced dead at the scene, while others were rushed to the Amamfrom Polyclinic and the Kasoa Mother and Child Hospital for urgent treatment.
The accident caused heavy traffic along the Accra–Kasoa stretch as police, fire, and emergency response teams worked to rescue survivors and clear the wreckage.
Chief Inspector Joseph Mensah of the Amamfrom Police Station confirmed the incident, stating that investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the crash.
He cautioned drivers to exercise patience and avoid dangerous manoeuvres such as reversing on highways, which continue to endanger lives.
The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the morgue, and police are working to contact the families of the victims.
