Lawyers for popular Ghanaian gospel musician Empress Gifty have issued a formal demand letter to Evangelist Patricia Asiedu, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, seeking a public apology and retraction of alleged defamatory comments.
The demand follows a viral video in which Agradaa reportedly mocked Empress Gifty’s legal representative, referring to him as a “so-called lawyer” and questioning his credentials after their initial court appearance.
In the letter, signed by Patrick Tawiah-Amprofi of Tawiah-Amprofi & Associates, the remarks were described as “derogatory and defamatory” to both the lawyer and his firm.
"Your reference to him as a ‘so-called lawyer’ is derogatory and defamatory to both his person and this law firm. We therefore demand that you retract and apologise to him using the same medium within seven days of receiving this letter," the notice stated
The legal team warned that failure to comply within the specified timeframe would result in legal action.
"Please take notice that if you fail to retract and apologise as indicated above within seven days, we shall initiate legal proceedings against you."
This development comes on the heels of a court ruling in the defamation case filed by Empress Gifty against Agradaa.
On Thursday, June 26, 2025, the Tema High Court, presided over by Justice P. Baffoe-Bonnie, dismissed Agradaa’s motion to strike out the GH¢20 million lawsuit.
The court further imposed a GH¢6,000 fine on Agradaa for causing delays in proceedings, citing the absence of her legal counsel at the initial hearing.
The defamation suit stems from a May 2025 livestream, during which Agradaa allegedly accused Empress Gifty of immoral conduct.
The gospel artist is seeking GH¢20 million in damages for slander and libel, a permanent injunction against future defamatory statements, and the removal of all such content from social media platforms.
