Engage Now Africa, a non-Governmental organization in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare, has marked the 2022 World Against Child Labor Day.

The event was held at Old-Ningo in the Ningo-Prampram District of the Greater Accra Region under the theme: Universal Social Protection to End Child Labour.

Residents of the community and other authoritative bodies in the area participated in the event.

The team took turns to create awareness, of the causes of child labour, the effects or medical implications, the solution to the above-mentioned issues, and the way forward.

The Director of Engage Now Africa, Mr. Komla Afasi in his address educated the participants on the concept of the event.

He explained that “Universal Social Protection is human rights, it is also defined as a system of policies that provide equitable access to all people and protect them throughout their lives against poverty and risks to livelihood and wellbeing".

The Special Guest of the event, Dr. Lynette Gay, also observed that one of the factors that contribute to child labour is broken home and not always poverty.

A forum discussion segment was also opened for the public, where the moderator educated the participants on the need to protect their wards.

The NGO since its existence has been of help to parents to understand that children should not be subjected to the worst forms of child labour and that children are to learn and not to earn.

At the end of the event, a cash donation was made to the parents of two survivors.
