Minister for Justice and Attorney-General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has praised the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) for its outstanding performance and transformation, highlighting the agency’s recovery of GH₵337.4 million—significantly surpassing its 2025 target of GH₵200 million.
Speaking to the press on Thursday, December 18, Dr. Ayine credited EOCO’s success to strong institutional leadership, emphasizing that effective governance is vital for the performance of government agencies.
According to the Attorney-General, the combined leadership of President John Mahama and EOCO has reinforced integrity within the agency, enabling it to carry out its statutory duties efficiently.
“EOCO has exceeded its 2025 target of GH₵200 million, achieving recoveries of GH₵337.4 million. This represents an excess of GH₵133.4 million and marks the highest recovery in the history of the agency,” he said.
Dr. Ayine further revealed that EOCO’s investigations recovered assets worth USD 15 million from a fraudulent Malaysian company involved in offshore crypto scams targeting Ghanaians.
He explained that a portion of these recovered funds will be used to compensate victims defrauded by the company, while the majority will be transferred to the public treasury.
“Through complex and groundbreaking investigations, EOCO has recovered USD 15.191 million. Some of these funds will compensate the defrauded victims, but the greater part will be retained and paid into the public coffers,” he added.
