Ghana forward Ernest Nuamah has signaled his readiness to return to action after months on the sidelines, offering a major boost to the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Injury Setback
The 22-year-old Olympique Lyonnais winger tore his anterior cruciate ligament in a Ligue 1 clash against Lille in April. The injury ruled him out of Ghana’s remaining World Cup qualifiers after he had a superlative performance in the Black Stars' 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying game against Chad in March, where he record a goal and an assist in their 5-0 thumping of the central African nation. The injury curtailed his progress in the 2024/25 Ligue 1 campaign and also transcended into this current Ligue 1 season.
His absence was a significant blow, given his growing influence for both club and country.
Nuamah’s Message
Taking to social media, Nuamah shared an emotional post about his recovery:
“A man who is through the storm won’t fear the rain. He’s seen the toughest times, faced the hardest battle and still stands tall. Every setback has shaped him. Lead me to the starting line. Soon, soon, soon.”

International Impact
- Nuamah has been capped 18 times, scoring 4 goals for Ghana.
- His most memorable strike came in Bamako, where he netted a stunning equaliser as Ghana rallied to beat Mali 2–1 in World Cup qualifying.
- His pace, creativity, and left-footed dynamism make him a vital attacking option for the Black Stars.
Ghana will make their fifth World Cup appearance at the expanded 2026 finals, co-hosted by USA, Canada, and Mexico. Drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia, the Black Stars will need Nuamah’s flair to complement their attacking arsenal. His return could be decisive in Ghana’s bid to progress beyond the group stage.
Nuamah’s comeback is not just a personal triumph—it’s a timely boost for Ghana’s World Cup ambitions, restoring one of their most exciting young talents to the fold.
