National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer aspirant Dr Ekwow Spio-Garbrah has confirmed meeting other aspirants in the lead-up to the party’s December 7 presidential primary.

He, however, pointed out that it is not a meeting against former President John Dramani Mahama.

Speaking at the launch of his campaign on Tuesday, Dr Spio-Garbrah said the meeting was for the NDC “so that the NDC can restore its principles of probity, integrity and accountability, which many people think we have distanced away from”.

Five aspirants including Sylvester Mensah were reported to have met over the rules leading up to the elections.

Many considered it a meeting against Mr Mahama, who is considered the favourite.

For the immediate past Minister of Trades and Industry, it is possible for a partnership to happen since it is not novel in Ghana’s political landscape.

“It is happening in the banking sector,” he stated.

“They have happened in the telecom sector and they happen with political parties and political candidates in many parts of the world. So, I won’t close the door to it.

“It’s an option that is on the table but none of the aspirants have begun talking along those lines.”

He said he is interested in such partnership talks just to ensure “a common and a level-playing field and equal-playing field for all candidates”.

But he said for anything to be crystalised, ideas of the interested aspirants would have to be tested “and see whether there is similitude”.
