President John Dramani Mahama has assured that every region in Ghana will benefit from his government’s flagship infrastructure initiative, the Big Push, which was officially launched on Tuesday, September 16, 2025.

The Big Push programme, according to President Mahama, aims to open economic opportunities, enhance food distribution networks, ease travel between regions, and boost industrial growth across the country.

In his address at the launch in Afienya, Greater Accra Region, the President emphasized that the programme is designed to modernise Ghana’s road infrastructure and improve national connectivity.

“From January 7, we have been designing road projects across the length and breadth of the country. The Big Push touches all 16 regions of the country. Every region is going to benefit from its share of the Big Push programme,” he said.

The first priority of the Big Push, Mahama explained, is to improve inter-regional roads connecting regional capitals, ensuring smooth travel between cities such as Accra and Ho or Accra and Cape Coast.

The second priority will focus on linking district capitals, particularly in the 261 districts of Ghana.

“Our priority was to take roads that connect one regional capital to another. We believe that it should be easy for people to travel from one capital to another, for example, from Accra to Ho, or Accra to Cape Coast,” he explained.

The third priority will address road infrastructure in key food-producing and industrial manufacturing areas to support agricultural and industrial growth.

“We selected all the major food-growing areas in the country, looked at the roads in those areas, and added them to the Big Push,” he stated.
