President of UT Holdings, Prince Kofi Amoabeng, has shared heartbreaking stories of his former employees who were left jobless following the collapse of UT Bank by the Bank of Ghana.

In his major public comment after the revocation of the bank’s license over two years now, Mr. Amoabeng said his former staff are struggling to make ends meet after they were left unemployed since 2017.

Speaking in a recent interview on the KSM Show, Mr Amoabeng explained: “Last week I went to the funeral of one of my managers who died and obviously died because of the pressure and things like that.

“I even met a staff of mine not with the bank though but because of the things that happened who is now selling tiger nuts on the roadside, those things get to me.”

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) revoked the license of UT Bank and Capital Bank in 2017.

Recently, the Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) sacked some former employees of now defunct UT and Capital Banks who were absorbed into the bank following their collapse by  the Bank of Ghana for failing Mathematics and English from the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE) and the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

GCB terminated the contracts of the workers who are numbered about 57 for failing to possess pass marks in the two core subjects.
