Afrobeats and R&B sensation Gyakie has opened up about how life in the spotlight has reshaped her personality, revealing that the pressures of fame have turned her into an introvert.
In a candid conversation, the “Forever” hitmaker admitted that she used to enjoy being out and about, but the scrutiny and pressure that come with her public image have made her prefer the peace and privacy of her home.
"I used to be popping outside. I used to be outside," she said. "But it's scary out there. The next thing you know, you’re trending. Since there’s no trouble in my house, I like to stay home."
Gyakie explained that her transformation stems largely from the growing toxicity on social media and the intense public scrutiny she now faces as a celebrity.
"The internet used to be fun, but now it’s so toxic. People are always angry, always fighting. When you go to events, there are bloggers and cameras everywhere. You constantly have to be extra careful with everything you do, and that stresses me out."
She noted that while she still attends public functions, she often feels the pressure to act perfectly at all times, even in the most mundane situations.
"Once you leave home, you have to be a robot. I could be sitting down and scratching my hair, and someone would question why I’m scratching my hair. I’m a human being. You’re not allowed to be human when you’re outside," she said.
Gyakie also expressed frustration over being secretly recorded by strangers in public, saying the act often leads to backlash when she tries to address it.
"Sometimes when I’m in public and doing something random, people take videos of me. But when I complain, it triggers them. So truly, I love being in my room in my house."
Despite the downsides of fame, Gyakie continues to thrive musically and remains a powerful voice in the African music scene. For now, however, her comfort zone remains within the walls of her home, away from the noise, the cameras, and the judgment.
