Fatawu Issahaku makes full debut as Ipswich beat Rayo Vallecano in a pre-season friendly

Ghana winger Abdul Fatawu Issahaku completed 90 minutes as Ipswich Town continued their preparations for the new Premier League season with a convincing 3-0 win over Rayo Vallecano.

The 22-year-old was handed a full outing at Portman Road on Saturday as Ipswich produced an impressive first-half display to put the Spanish side under pressure.

Leif Davis scored twice before Emersonn added a third to give Ipswich a comfortable lead at half-time. The home side then managed the game effectively after the break to complete a convincing victory.

For Fatawu, the match offered another valuable opportunity to build his fitness and understanding with his new team ahead of the Premier League campaign.

The Ghana international joined Ipswich from Leicester City in July, signing a five-year contract after three seasons with the Foxes. He made 100 appearances for Leicester in all competitions and scored nine goals during the 2025-26 campaign.

Fatawu has already experienced Premier League football with Leicester, but his move to Ipswich represents a fresh opportunity to establish himself at the highest level.

Ipswich, who have returned to the Premier League, will begin their campaign at home against Sunderland on 22 August.

With the season opener now less than two weeks away, Fatawu will be hoping his strong pre-season displays can translate into a prominent role when the competitive action begins.
