Abdul Fatawu Issahaku’s red-hot form continued on Tuesday night, but it was not enough to prevent Leicester City from slipping to a dramatic 4–3 defeat against Southampton.
The 21-year-old Ghanaian winger struck Leicester’s third goal in what was a commanding first-half display at the King Power Stadium. The Foxes raced into a 3–0 lead inside 30 minutes, with Fatawu adding his name to the scoresheet after earlier goals from Mukasa and Patson Daka.
At that stage, Leicester appeared in full control.
But football can turn quickly. Southampton mounted a remarkable comeback in the second half, scoring four times to stun the home crowd and snatch all three points. Goals from Stewart, Stephens, Manning and a dramatic stoppage-time winner from Charles completed the turnaround in a match that swung wildly in momentum.
For Fatawu, however, it was another night that underlined his growing influence. The winger has now scored in back-to-back matches, having also found the net in Leicester’s recent win over Birmingham City, a game that featured fellow Ghanaian Ibrahim Osman.
His strike against Southampton means he has now contributed eight goals and seven assists in all competitions this season, an impressive return that highlights his importance to the Foxes’ attacking play.
Even in defeat, Fatawu’s consistency stands out. In his last four appearances for Leicester, he has scored against Oxford, Birmingham City and Southampton, drawing a blank only against Charlton.
Leicester may have been left frustrated by a night that slipped from their grasp, but for Ghanaian fans, Fatawu’s sparkling form continues to shine brightly.
