FC Samartex 1996 head coach Nurudeen Amadu is setting his sights high as he prepares for his debut season in African club competitions.
Following a successful season in which he led Samartex to the Ghana Premier League title, Amadu is now focused on the team’s upcoming CAF Champions League clash against Cameroon’s Victoria United.
Amadu is drawing inspiration from veteran Ghanaian coaches Abdul Karim Zito and Evans Adotey, who previously guided Dreams FC and Medeama SC, respectively, to impressive performances in African tournaments.
“It’s a privilege and I take inspiration from any of them like [Karim] Zito and [Evans] Adotey. Medeama as a club has achieved a lot, and we are all proud of them,” Amadu remarked.
Both Zito and Adotey achieved significant success last season, with Dreams FC reaching the semi-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup before being eliminated by eventual champions Zamalek, and Medeama SC advancing to the group stage of the CAF Champions League.
Amadu is determined to build on this legacy as he leads Samartex into their continental debut. “Since it’s our first time in the competition, we are aiming to go as far as possible and do our best.
It’s not going to be easy, but the technical team, players, management, and investors are all highly motivated to elevate the team to new heights,” he added.
With the first leg of the CAF Champions League preliminary round set for August 16 and the return leg scheduled for August 23, Samartex is gearing up for a challenging but exciting new chapter in their footballing journey.
