Ghanaian-born midfielder Baba Alhassan has officially joined the Ugandan national team, training with the Cranes for the first time following his nationality switch.
The Steaua Bucharest player received his maiden call-up for Uganda’s November friendlies against Chad (Nov 14) and AFCON hosts Morocco (Nov 18).
Alhassan: “It’s My Mother’s Heritage”
“Despite being eligible for Ghana, I chose Uganda because of my mother’s heritage,” Alhassan shared.
The 25-year-old trained with his new teammates at the Lonari Sports Club on Tuesday, November 11, and is expected to make his debut against Chad.
Club Form & AFCON Outlook
- Club: Steaua Bucharest (Romania)
- 2025/26 season: 10 appearances, 1 assist
- AFCON 2025 Group C: Tunisia, Tanzania, Nigeria
Baba Alhassan has been pivotal in his club, Steaua Bucharest as he helped them clinch the double last season, where they gained the opportunity to play in the UEFA Champions League qualification. They fell short in their journey but gained automatic qualification into the UEFA Europa League and Baba has featured in all four league phase games so far.
Alhassan’s inclusion adds depth to Uganda’s midfield as Gernot Rohr’s side prepares for a challenging group stage in Morocco next month.
