Emotions ran high in Abuakwa Manhyia in the Ashanti Region as the final funeral rites for six victims of a devastating house fire commenced today.

The solemn ceremony is being held at the Mpasaso No. 2 Community Centre, where the deceased will also be laid to rest.

As part of the funeral arrangements, thanksgiving services are taking place at The Church of Pentecost – Manhyia and the Apostles Continuation Church – Mpasaso.

The victims, among them a three-month-old baby, died after a raging fire engulfed their apartment in the early hours of the morning.

They have been identified as Akua Daa, 36; Sarah Kusiwaa, 31; Vivian Asantewaa, 19; Bawuah Osaa Mavis, 18; Queenster Adepa, 6; and infant Parin Obrempong.

The tragedy occurred at about 12:30 a.m. on Monday, December 22, 2025, shortly after power was restored to parts of the Ashanti Region following a temporary outage the previous evening.

Firefighters from the Nkawie and Twedie fire stations swiftly responded to distress calls and managed to contain the blaze.

Sadly, all six victims were trapped inside the apartment when the fire broke out and could not be rescued.

The incident shocked the community and left residents mourning a loss that has deeply scarred families and neighbours alike.
