Fiorentina and Ghana midfielder Alfred Duncan has brought attention to the prevalent issue of racism in football, asserting that it exists not only among fans but also between players on the pitch.

Duncan, a Ghana international, expressed his observations during an interview with the official Fiorentina channel.

“There has always been racism between players on the pitch, but you don’t hear it because unfortunately, we don’t wear microphones,” said Duncan.

He highlighted that understanding if someone is genuinely racist goes beyond the use of insulting words, emphasizing the manner and timing of such expressions. Over the years, he has learned not to react to certain incidents that occur between players.

Duncan acknowledged the futility of responding to discriminatory actions from fans, noting that paying less attention to such incidents is ultimately more beneficial.

He spoke about the gestures made by opposition supporters during away games, even with children present, and stressed the need for more education on these matters.

The midfielder, born in Accra and having spent his entire career in Italy with clubs like Inter, Livorno, Sampdoria, Sassuolo, Cagliari, and Fiorentina, emphasized the importance of education to address and combat racism in football.
