A fierce fire has gutted several homes in the densely populated Bomso suburb of Kumasi, leaving dozens of families homeless and destroying valuables worth thousands of cedis.

The blaze, which began in a single-room apartment, quickly spread across at least 50 rooms due to the cramped layout and poor structural conditions of the buildings.

Eyewitnesses and victims believe the fire was triggered by an explosion from an electricity meter.

Valuables such as refrigerators, kitchenware, electrical appliances, and personal items worth thousands of cedis were consumed by the blaze.

Devastated victims recounted emotional stories of losing everything, with many unable to retrieve even a single item as the fire spread with overwhelming intensity.

The fire service personnel revealed they faced challenges accessing the scene due to the narrow passageways between buildings.

According to DO2 Appiah Anthony of the Ghana National Fire Service, the congested layout of the community hindered firefighting efforts and allowed the flames to spread rapidly.

The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, with authorities yet to issue a definitive report.

Meanwhile, the Municipal Chief Executive for Asokwa, Anwal Sadat Ahmed, visited the scene and assured residents of the assembly's support.

He said immediate relief efforts are being coordinated and pledged collaboration with the fire service to prevent future incidents.

Essential support is expected to be provided to the displaced families in the coming days.
