Fire has gutted  scores of shops in Cape Coast in the central Region.

The affected shops, mainly food joints and boutiques, were burnt to ashes Thursday night when a popular Pizza Joint “Medallion Pizza” caught fire with the fire extending to the other nearby shops around the Mfantsipim School Junction.

The fire, according to eye witnesses, including workers of the Pizza Joint was started from the kitchen of the Pizza Joint which is said to be as a result of a gas leakage.

Three flat screen television sets , fridges, drinks , stoves , money and other appliances at the Medallion Pizza Joint were lost to the fire.

Adjoining boutiques, printing shop and eateries were also entirely razed down with property running into thousands of Ghana cedis destroyed in the process.

Fire service personnel who arrived on the scene on time struggled to put out the flame.

The security agencies are yet to speak on the matter.
