Fire guts over 50 mobile phone shops near Kwame Nkrumah circle

A major fire outbreak on Tuesday morning, January 20, 2026, razed more than 50 mobile phone shops located behind the VVIP Station at Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra, causing extensive damage to property.
The blaze reportedly started around 10:00 a.m., triggering panic among traders and commuters in the busy commercial enclave. Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) were quickly dispatched to the scene and managed to bring the inferno under control after intense efforts.
As of the time of reporting, the exact cause of the fire has not been officially confirmed. However, some affected shop owners suspect the outbreak may have been triggered by an electrical fault.
Details regarding the total cost of damage and whether any injuries were recorded remain unclear, as investigations are still ongoing.
Officials from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and the Klottey Korle Municipal Assembly are currently on site assessing the extent of the destruction and coordinating possible relief support for affected traders.
