A fire outbreak has left 14 rooms destroyed in a crowded multi-room residential building at Kukurizua, opposite Dastech, in the Bawku West District of the Upper East Region.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) said it received a distress call from LFM Aduko Roland at 10:10 a.m., prompting the immediate dispatch of a firefighting team just two minutes later.

Firefighters arrived at the scene by 10:15 a.m., only to find the blaze already spreading rapidly through several rooms of the compound.

Despite the intensity of the fire, personnel managed to contain it by 10:55 a.m. and completely extinguished it at 11:20 a.m., preventing further damage to neighbouring structures in the densely populated area.

In total, 14 rooms suffered extensive damage, while four rooms were saved through the swift and coordinated response of the GNFS crew.

The fire destroyed sections of the building’s roofing as well as electrical appliances, furniture, and other household property. However, mattresses, clothing, and beds were successfully salvaged, helping to minimise losses for affected residents.

No injuries or deaths were recorded. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, as GNFS officials work to determine the circumstances that led to the incident.
