A major fire outbreak on the evening of Wednesday, May 28, 2025, has destroyed several beachfront structures at the Maaha Beach Resort, a well-known tourist destination in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region.
The blaze, which started around the main pool area and extended to nearby guest accommodations, caused extensive damage before being brought under control.
An eyewitness who spoke to Citi News on condition of anonymity said the fire is believed to have originated at the adjacent Vision Beach facility before spreading to Maaha Beach Resort.
“The fire didn’t start from our end but from Vision Beach. It started from the kitchen through its front desk before it spread to our place [Maaha]. The Ghana Gas fire tender was even passing when the fire started but they said they couldn’t help because of the chemicals they use."
“So we called the personal assistant of the MP to call Axim and other tenders to come and help,” she said.
Faced with limited immediate firefighting support, resort staff and bystanders contacted the personal assistant to the Member of Parliament for the area, who then reached out to fire stations in Axim and surrounding towns for help.
The delay in emergency response allowed the flames to spread rapidly, damaging key structures before fire tenders from Axim and other nearby stations arrived to contain the situation.
