Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) are leading a rescue operation after a building collapsed at the Kasoa New Market in the Central Region on Saturday, October 11.

According to eyewitnesses, the old residential structure came crashing down while construction workers were reinforcing it.

The building’s owner had reportedly hired masons to add supporting pillars as part of plans to build a summer hut within the property.

Tragically, the structure gave way during the work, trapping one of the masons under the rubble.

Two others narrowly escaped without injury.

Fire officers, assisted by emergency responders, have cordoned off the area and are working around the clock to clear the debris in an effort to rescue the trapped worker.

Authorities have urged residents and bystanders to stay clear of the scene to allow rescue teams to operate safely and efficiently.

Rescue operations remain ongoing as officials race against time to save the victim.
