A 39 year old fisherman Christian Nukpeta has been sentenced to an initial three months imprisonment with hard labour for snatching a ballot box in the Sene West constituency in the Bono East Region.

He has also been banned from registering and voting in any elections in Ghana for the next five years.

Additionally he is to pay a fine of GHC 3,600 in default he will serve additional custodial sentence of six months in hard labour.

The accused person was convicted on his own plea when he appeared before the Techiman Circuit Court presided over by Justice Alexander Graham on Friday 11th December,2020.

Nukpeta, a fisherman is a resident of Tato Bator and is reported to have snatched a parliamentary ballot box at one of the polling stations during counting on Monday December 7 General Elections.

He was pursued by security personnel who were able to overpower him and recover the ballot box.

When the box was returned the seals of the New Patriotic Party(NPP) was removed from the parliamentary ballot box.

Results of the Sene West Parliamentary elections has still not been declared as there is a court injunction restraining the EC from declaring the results.

The elections was contested by three candidates, the incumbent Kwame Ampofo Twumasi of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Joseph Kumah Mackay of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and Caesar Fomekah of the National Democratic Party (NDP).
