Pyramids FC of Egypt delivered a landmark performance on Tuesday night, defeating Saudi Arabia’s Al Ahli 3–1 at a packed King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah to claim their first-ever FIFA trophy—the African-Asian-Pacific Cup.

The win, powered by a stunning hat-trick from Fiston Mayele, showcased African club football at its slick, clinical best and kept the CAF Champions League winners firmly on track in the FIFA Intercontinental Cup 2025 pathway.

2024/25 CAF Champions League top goal scorer. Fiston Mayele opened the scoring with a low drive past Édouard Mendy on the 21st minute, before English forward Ivan Toney equalized for Al Ahli from the penalty spot on the stroke of half time.

In the second half, both sides tussled so hard as either teams looked to grab the goal that could break the tie and there came Mayele who struck twice in quick succession to complete his treble and seal the win. He scored on the 71st and 75th minutes to clinch the title for the Egyptian giants.

Despite Al Ahli’s spirited first-half response, Krunoslav Jurčić’s side reasserted control after the break, with Mayele’s ruthless finishing proving decisive.

The victory propels Pyramids into the FIFA Challenger Cup on Saturday, 13 December, where they will face the winner of the FIFA Derby of the Americas—a clash between Cruz Azul (Concacaf Champions Cup holders) and the CONMEBOL Libertadores champions, to be decided on 29 November.

The winner of the Challenger Cup will earn the right to face UEFA Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain in the FIFA Intercontinental Cup final on Wednesday, 17 December. Venues for both December fixtures are yet to be confirmed..
