The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has dismantled a suspected phone-snatching and armed robbery syndicate believed to have terrorised residents across Accra and Tema.
The five suspects were picked up following intelligence-led operations that traced the group’s activities to several communities, including Oyibi, Apollonia, Spintex, Airport Residential Area, East Legon Hills, Zenu, Ashaiman and Kasoa.
Briefing the media, CID Director-General, COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, identified the suspects as Seth Tetteh Noi, popularly known as Wonder; Emmanuel Selasi Monyoko; Abdul Fatawo Samid; Karam Fatawo; and Abdul Jamal Mohammed.
According to her, the arrests were carried out in separate coordinated raids on December 24 and 26, 2025, at various hideouts across the Greater Accra Region.
During the operations, police recovered a locally manufactured pistol and a pump-action machine gun, weapons investigators believe were used in several violent robberies attributed to the group.
Preliminary investigations have linked the suspects to a brazen robbery attack on mourners at the Ashaiman Underbridge, where cash and valuables estimated at over GH¢200,000 were stolen.
“Following coordinated operations at Ashaiman China Mall and Kasoa, police arrested the five suspects and recovered a pistol and a pump-action machine gun believed to have been used in multiple robberies.
Investigations have also connected the group to the Ashaiman Underbridge funeral robbery, and further intelligence helped us foil another planned attack at Ashaiman China Mall,” COP Donkor explained.
She assured the public that investigations are ongoing, stressing that the Police Service is actively pursuing additional suspects and leads to completely dismantle the criminal network.
The Police Service has reiterated its commitment to ensuring public safety and urged residents to continue cooperating with security agencies by sharing timely and credible information.
