The Western Regional Police Command has arrested five more individuals in connection with the murder of John Abban at Asemkor in the Agona Nkwanta District, intensifying efforts to bring all perpetrators to justice.

According to police sources, the suspects were rounded up at separate hideouts across the region. Their arrests follow ongoing investigations into the brutal killing, which is believed to be linked to a chieftaincy dispute.

On Thursday, October 23, 2025, officers apprehended 50-year-old Kwabena Asirifi at his hideout in Ampataano, near Asemkor.

The following day, Friday, October 24, police from the Regional Intelligence Directorate arrested three more suspects — James Eshun, alias Abeiku (25), Joseph Aidoo, alias Moree (45), and Stephen Nyame, alias Joe (18) — at Abuesi in the Shama District.

These arrests come after an earlier operation on October 18 that led to the detention of six other suspects at Ahuntumano, near Butre, within the same district.

All the suspects have been remanded into police custody and are expected to reappear in court on October 30, 2025.

The victim, John Abban — brother to the chiefs of Butre and Asemkor — was reportedly attacked and killed on October 6, 2025. Following the incident, the suspects fled the community until they were tracked down in recent days.

Police have reaffirmed their commitment to bringing all involved to justice, assuring the public that investigations are ongoing and that remaining suspects will soon be apprehended.
