Florence Obinim, gospel musician and wife of International God’s Way Church founder Bishop Daniel Obinim, has delivered an emotional and controversial response to persistent public ridicule over her appearance, invoking spiritual curses against critics during a live television programme.
Appearing on the Christmas Edition of Experience in Life with Nayas, Mrs Obinim openly confronted rumours that she had altered her body through cosmetic surgery.
She dismissed the claims as false and malicious, insisting her transformation is the result of spiritual discipline, not medical procedures.
In a moment that quickly drew attention on social media, the gospel singer was seen pouring what appeared to be olive oil onto the studio floor while issuing stern spiritual pronouncements against those mocking her looks, declaring her actions were done “in the name of Jesus.”
She explained that years of intense fasting and personal sacrifice, undertaken to support her husband during a turbulent period in his ministry, have taken a visible toll on her body.
“I have not gone under the knife,” she stressed, attributing her weight loss to extended periods of prayer and fasting, sometimes lasting 30, 40, and even 120 days.
Mrs Obinim disclosed that she willingly placed her own gospel music career on pause out of loyalty and love, choosing to focus entirely on interceding for her husband’s ministry to recover and move forward.
She acknowledged that the prolonged fasting has significantly reduced her body weight, adding that she is personally uncomfortable with gaining weight and is often reminded by her husband whenever it happens.
Looking ahead, she assured her supporters that she plans to return fully to her music ministry once the church’s situation stabilises.
Framing her sacrifice in biblical terms, Mrs Obinim cited John 10:17–18, saying her decision mirrors Christ’s willingness to give up His comfort for a greater cause. She also leaned on scripture to address the criticism, quoting Psalm 125 to affirm that those who trust in God cannot be shaken.
Referencing Matthew 5:11–12, she encouraged herself to remain joyful in the face of insults and false accusations, noting that the Bible promises heavenly reward for those who endure persecution for righteousness’ sake.
Her remarks come amid intense public debate about her recent appearance, with opinions sharply divided online. While some have expressed concern, others see her response as a bold stand against body-shaming and relentless scrutiny of public figures.
