Former Ghana international Felix Aboagye remains optimistic about Ghana's chances in the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), despite recent lackluster performances.
Ghana, pursuing their fifth AFCON title, is placed in Group B alongside Egypt, Mozambique, and Cape Verde, with the tournament scheduled from January 13 to February 11, 2024.
Aboagye, who played for Al Ahly, believes Ghana has the potential to secure the trophy.
Expressing confidence in the team's capabilities, he acknowledges the challenging competition, particularly from Egypt, a formidable contender with a strong chance of claiming the upcoming AFCON title.
“Yes, Egypt and Ghana are capable of winning the tournament. At the present time, Ghana is not performing well, but in the atmosphere and competitions of the tournament itself, everything changes.
"Egypt has a very strong team and has a strong chance of winning the tournament.”
The Black Stars, who last won the AFCON in 1982, have experienced three subsequent final defeats, losing to Ivory Coast in 1992 and 2015, and conceding the trophy to Egypt in 2010.
Despite recent challenges, Aboagye believes the tournament dynamics could favor Ghana, and the team has the potential to make a significant impact in the upcoming AFCON.
