Swiss second- tier side FC Aarau have announced the signing of Ghanaian international Daniel Afriyie Barnieh on a two-year contract with an option to extend.
The former Hearts of Oak attacker who spent the last two seasons with Swiss Super League side FC Zurich has penned down a two-year contract with FC Aarau, a second-tier side in Switzerland with an option to further extend the deal.

Barnieh, whose contract was terminated by FC Zurich on Thursday, July 3 2025 by mutual consent, has emerged as the newest addition to FC Aarau’s set up as the Swiss second division side look to bolster their squad ahead of the upcoming season with the aim of making it to the top tier in the 2026/2027 season.

The Ghanaian international joined the Swiss side FC Zürich in January 2023, for an undisclosed fee, signing a contract until June 2026 with the club but left after spending two thirds of the period with the club, being with them for two-and-a-half years. He scored 3 goals in 50 games for the side in his three-and-a-half year stint.
Afriyie had an amazing career with Ghanaian powerhouse Hearts of Oak, leading them to five trophies – the Premier League, two FA Cups, one Super Cup and the President’s Cup while netting 13 goals and 4 assists in 69 appearances in the Ghana Premier League and CAF continental club competition.
He previously played for Burkinabe club Rahimo FC, where he won the domestic league with them in the 2018-19 season.
In 2021, the former Hearts of Oak attacker led Ghana's U20s to victory in the Africa Cup final against Uganda, scoring twice in the final to clinch the country’s fourth ever U20 African Cup of Nations trophy.
He has made a couple appearances for Ghana’s senior national team the Black Stars and the U23 side the Black Meteors, making his debut in June 2023, and making three appearances.
He made his senior debut for the Black Stars in June 2022 and has since gone on to feature in nine matches and scored four goals for the senior national team, the Black Stars.
