Tragedy struck the Central Region on Christmas Eve as four people lost their lives in a road accident at Twifo Ntafrewaso along the Cape Coast–Twifo Praso highway.

According to DOII Abdul Wasiu Hudu, Central Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the Twifo Praso Fire Station received a distress call at approximately 4:48 p.m. on Wednesday, December 24. A rescue team was promptly dispatched to the scene.

On arrival, the team discovered that a Hyundai Getz, registration number GW 7715-25, which was being used for commercial purposes, had veered off the road and crashed into a tree in a nearby bush while travelling from Twifo Mampong toward Twifo Praso.

Three of the victims were trapped in the wreckage and were extricated by the fire service before being rushed to hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

A fourth person had been rescued earlier by civilians but was also confirmed dead upon arrival at the Twifo Praso Government Hospital.

Eyewitnesses at the scene indicated that the driver lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a curve in the rain, reportedly due to overspeeding.

The impact left the car completely wrecked.

DOII Hudu warned that the incident underscores the persistent dangers of speeding and unsafe driving, particularly during festive periods when traffic volumes are high.

He urged motorists to exercise caution, adhere strictly to road safety regulations, and reduce speed to prevent further loss of life.
