President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), Fouzi Lekjaa, has reaffirmed Morocco’s readiness to host what he described as a “historic edition” of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) later this year.

Speaking to beIN Sports, Lekjaa stressed that the North African country’s preparations are rooted in decades of investment and long-term planning rather than last-minute measures. He credited the vision of King Mohammed VI, whose reforms over the past 20 years have transformed Morocco into a global sporting hub.

“Thanks to His Majesty’s long-term vision, Morocco is positioned to deliver a reference event that will set the standard for future AFCON tournaments,” Lekjaa said.

The 2025 AFCON, scheduled for December 21, 2025 to January 18, 2026, will be staged across six Moroccan cities, featuring newly built and fully renovated stadiums ranked among the most modern in Africa. Beyond venues, Morocco has also enhanced logistics, security, and hospitality systems to meet international standards.

Lekjaa emphasised that the tournament is intended to transcend football, serving as a platform to showcase African unity and solidarity.

“This is more than just football,” he said. “It is an opportunity to showcase brotherhood and the spirit of shared celebration across Africa.”

With cutting-edge infrastructure paired with Morocco’s renowned hospitality, the FRMF president believes the tournament will not only highlight the nation’s rising global sporting profile but also uphold the traditions that make AFCON one of Africa’s most cherished competitions.
