A former Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Ken Dzirasah, says he doffs his hat for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for the able manner in which has boldly implemented his ambitious Free Senior High School (SHS) policy in the midst of the difficulties associated with the program.

Interacting with Bola Ray on Starr Chat on Accra-based Starr FM, Wednesday, September 5, 2018, the former Member of Parliament (MP) for South Tongu said he fully supports a Free SHS policy but the numerous challenges associated with its implementation begs for so many questions, especially, as to whether it was time to roll out such policy or not.

“The Free SHS is an excellent program. I absolutely support it but whether the timing is good; whether the approach is good; whether the circumstances in which we find ourselves is the right time or not is another matter. If you look at the challenges that are emanating from it, we in the NDC has consistently said introducing this free SHS progressively will ease the burden on the exchequer; will ease the anxieties of parents; and will ease the difficulties of funding. But it is being implemented in fulfillment of a manifesto promise. To that extent, that is the contract that Nana Akufo-Addo has done with the people of this country”, he noted.

He added “But he needs to be commended for being so audacious in venturing to implement the Free SHS policy”.

Mr. Ken Dzirasah is an elder of the NDC who is currently part of Team Joshua Alabi that is working tireless to ensure that Prof. Joshua Alabi who has declared his intention to contest the vacant flagbearer position of the party wins the elections when the umbrella family meets on December 7, 2018 to decide on the fate of the aspirants.
