Ghanaian defender Ebenezer Annan has completed a move to French Ligue 1 side AS Saint-Étienne, signing a long-term contract that runs until 2028.
The 22-year-old left-back joins from Red Star Belgrade, having played a key role in the Serbian champions’ domestic double last season. He is expected to wear the number 19 shirt at his new club.
Born in Accra, Annan began his football journey in Ghana before moving to Italy as a teenager, where he developed through Bologna FC’s youth system. He made his Serie A debut in January 2022 and also featured in the Coppa Italia.
Seeking more regular game time, he spent the 2022/23 season on loan at Imolese in Italy’s third tier, making 28 appearances. His next move took him to Serbia with FK Novi Pazar, where standout performances across 32 games led to a permanent transfer in early 2024.
Annan’s consistent displays earned him a switch to Red Star Belgrade during the winter window. He made 19 appearances for the club last season, scored a goal and provided seven assists as the club secured both the Serbian SuperLiga title and the national cup. His rise also saw him earn a Ghana senior call-up in 2024.

“I am very happy to sign for AS Saint-Étienne,” said Annan. “The club is building a good team with great staff and amazing fans. It’s an honour to join, and I’ll give my all to help the team achieve its goals.”
The Ghanaian left back is set to join his compatriot and former West African Football Academy talisman Augustine Boakye in the setup.
ASSE head coach Eirik Horneland praised the signing, describing Annan as a “powerful left-back with great stamina who has experience in high-pressure and international matches.”
“We’re excited to work with him,” Horneland added.
